Belper's Farmers' Markets
Farmers' Markets are held on the 2nd Saturday of every month on the Market Place from 9.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m.
There is ample free parking in the adjacent Coppice Car Park.

The Town Council
Belper Town Council was formed in 1974 taking its powers from some of those performed by Belper Urban District Council. The Council covers all of Belper as well as Milford. The Councillors are elected every four years, the last election being in May 2011. The Council elects one of its number every May to be Mayor for the next 12 months.
Belper Town Council is responsible for running the following services within the town:-
- Maintaining and Looking After:-
- the Memorial Gardens
- the Garden at the end of Field Lane
- the Garden in Milford
- St John's Chapel (the Council Chamber and the Heritage Centre)
- the Coppice Car Park
- the Market Place
- Providing:-
- Car Parking on the Coppice
- Some bus shelters across the Town
- Grit Bins across the Town
- The Heritage Centre in St John's Chapel. This doubles as a meeting room for local organisations.
- Allotments
- Notice Boards
- Arranging the Christmas Festivities including:-
- The Christmas Tree in the Market Place
- The lights in Bridge Street and King Street
- Festive Evening when the lights are switched on
- The lit small trees outside numerous shops
- Christmas Eve Carol Service in the Market Place
- Running the Farmers' Market on the 2nd Saturday of every month

- Arranging the Annual Wreath Laying and Remembrance Day Service
- Arranging the Floral Displays throughout the year
- Acting as a statutory consultee on Planning applications within the Town
- Giving grants to local sporting and community organisations
- Funding Larks in the Parks
The Council sets its own Council Tax which is collected as part of the total Council Tax. For the year 2012/12 the Town's Council Tax income is £245,150. This is used to pay the salaries and wages of the Council's staff and all other expenses associated with its responsibilities. It is equivalent to a Band D Council Tax of £32.60 per year. This is the same as in 2010/11 and 2011/12.
The Council meets every month (except August) in the Council chamber which is situated in St John's Chapel. Meetings are held on Tuesdays (usually the second in each month) at 7.00 p.m. The meetings are open to the public. Time is set aside at the start of each meeting for the public to address the Council in relation to the business to be transacted.
