- MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF 10th JULY 2001
The Minutes of the Meeting held on 10th July 2001 were received and approved.
- MATTERS ARISING FROM THE ABOVE MINUTES
Minute 56 - Sports Development
A general discussion took place on the facilities for coaching girls and boys in the mainline sports. It was considered that many of the sports clubs in Belper were providing a good service in this respect and were developing sports for the future. It was decided that the Council for the time being should concentrate its efforts on providing support for the after school clubs, basketball and swimming. The Borough Council would be informed of this and Councillor Chris Short and Mr Murray Calladine, the Leisure Development Manager, would be asked to make proposals in these three areas which could be discussed when they attended the next meeting of the Committee on 22nd January 2002.
Minute 57 - Belper Hockey Club
As Councillor Ron Buzzard was not present and no communication had been received direct from Belper Hockey Club, this item was deferred until the next meeting.
- GRANT APPLICATIONS
It was agreed to make a grant of £100 towards the out of pocket expenses of the gardener who helped aged people in Belper.
b) Amber Valley Victim Support Scheme
It was agreed to make a grant of £250 towards the scheme, in line with the grant made in the last two years.
c) Derbyshire Coalition for Inclusive Living
It was agreed to make a grant of £50 to the Coalition. This would be earmarked specifically for the benefit of residents of Belper who used the facilities provided at this Ripley based organisation.
It was agreed that Belper Folk Club should be congratulated on making a financial success of the Folk Moot and be asked to submit a grant application for the next Moot.
- BELPER MUSIC AND ARTS
Mr John Harrington was in attendance for this item and responded to a number of queries on individual events. It was generally agreed that Belper Music and Arts had provided an extremely worthwhile service and had made Belper noted throughout Amber Valley for the variety, standard and number of its musical and artistic events. It was agreed to recommend to the Council that a grant of £3000 should be made to Belper Music and Arts in this financial year and provision should be made in the budget for a grant of £5000 in 2002/3.
- GOLDEN JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS
The proposal submitted by the Chair as an outline for the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations were considered. The idea behind them was to ensure that all the bodies likely to wish to organise events in commemoration of the Jubilee were co-ordinated in their approach to this. It was agreed to call a public meeting on 20th November to which all organisations that the Council is aware of would be invited and a press release would be issued to cover the other interested parties.
- BELPER RADIO
The Christmas Committee at their meeting on 11th October had received a presentation from Mr Steve Jenner of the Broadcasting Brothers Partnership. This organisation wished to broadcast in Belper for two days in conjunction with either the switching on of the Christmas lights or the Festivities on 16 December. The costs of this initiative were likely to be in the region of £2000, most of which would be covered by advertising revenue. However, the Council was being asked to fund the cost of the licence fee of £360. It was decided that as both events had been well attended in the past because of the coverage by local radio and local newspapers and that as this sum had not been provided for in the budget, the offer of the partnership would be declined.
