BELPER TOWN COUNCIL
AGENDA FOR THE MEETING OF 13th JANUARY 2004
- Apologies for absence.
- Change in order of business.
- Declarations of interest.
- Public Participation
- To determine which items, if any, should be taken in camera.
- Belper Marlin Swimming Club (7.00pm)
At the Recreation and Development Committee meeting on the 14th January 2003 a presentation was made by Mr Kevin Hallsworth and Mr Mick Howard of the Swimming Club. It was considered that the Club would not develop unless more water time was made available for practice. As the Chairman of the Committee was also Chair of the Leisure Centre Trust it was agreed he should meet with the Club and the Manager of the Centre to see if more time could be made available to the Club.
At the meeting on 15th April it was reported that a proposal had been received from the Swimming Club and the Chairman would be meeting with them to discuss the matter further. Following the change in control Councillor Mark Robertson was charged with re-establishing contact with the Swimming Club.
Representatives of the Swimming Club will be present.
- Bonfire and Fireworks on the Meadows (7.20pm)
Minute 19 of the last meeting refers, though it should be noted that Thornton's bonfire and firework display did take place at the beginning of November. Mr Roger Carter, and Mr Gary Spendlove of the Cricket Club have been invited to the meeting.
- Wakes Day (7.40pm)
Because of the undoubted success of Wakes Day last year the Committee decided to explore the possibility of making it an annual event and taking a more active role in the planning and organisation of the event itself.
Mr Gary Spendlove of the Cricket Club and Mr Alfie Smith of the Borough Council's Sports Development Team have been invited to the meeting. It has been suggested that the event should take place over the last weekend in May and involve a wider range of activities.
- Hunter Road allotments (8.00pm)
Minute 26 of the last meeting refers. It is hoped that representatives of the Allotments Association will be present.
- To receive and note the minutes of the meeting held on 21st October 2003.
- Matters arising from the minutes not included elsewhere on the agenda.
- Grant Applications
The budget for minor grants in the current year is £6,000: expenditure to date is £5,030. It appears that neither the Belper Historical Society nor the Belper Celebration, where Committee agreed to underwrite respectively the Calendar celebrating the North Mills 200th anniversary up to £1,479, and the celebration up to £500, will be requiring support.

The annual Folk Moot has been underwritten by the Council for at least the last four years. The Folk Club has never had to call on this money.
